To Where the Rivers FlowA Poem by Isaiah Jacob BarberI lie awake Eyes staring My dream is at stake I’m shivering
I imagine What I would have therein Within a dream What it would deem
At last I fall asleep A dream to keep Awaken within a dream
Tis lovely here No burden to bear The greenery Imagery
The trees Down on my knees Tis oh serene A tranquil stream
It flows within my blood stream It shines with a gleam Reflected upon a mountaintop I do not want it to stop
There is a sparkle within my eyes I’m far away from all the lies All of this seems so real At last, I could feel
A gaze upon a maiden She looks like an angle from heaven She loves me for me And my poetry
Perhaps this is but a dream But I cherish such a dream Though it may not come to pass She still has my heart of glass
Perhaps it is but a fantasy For who would love someone like me Perhaps this is far from reality But even still, I shall keep it with me
If there is such a maiden dressed in white I shall wait for the day we unite I will journey high and low Lie in wait to where the rivers flow
