Painting Beauty with the Ashes

Painting Beauty with the Ashes

A Poem by Isaiah Jacob Barber

A world I see

Forgotten times

Of a life with good company

A world tuned to ash

Crumbling justice

A land in rubble

Filth in ways

Pleasures in darkness

Lives in ruin

Faith is tarnished

Tainted with lies

A ground not sound

Holy ground

Gone from memory

And the sanctuary

Defiled demonically

Drenched in hidden chaos

Deception built in the midst

Where is humanity

Tis far from where I could see

Minds soaked in despair

Hearts bathed in ruin

Damage becomes us

Lives shattered and torn

I could do nothing

But stand and watch

A world in jeopardy

I am helpless

Nay, for there is but one

One thing I could do

And this is it

Shed my poetic spirit

In the midst of all of this

Through the darkness

Outside the realm

This world of ash

What I could possibly do

Bring words of wonders anew

Write these poems and with them

I’m painting beauty with the ashes
