Spirit of a Poet

Spirit of a Poet

A Poem by Isaiah Jacob Barber

Down on my knees

Praying god

Won’t you please

Put my mind at ease

I am falling fast

My mind is broken at last

My heart is shattered and torn

My spirit is about to forget, why I’m born

There’s no love for me

All I have are words of poetry

Who am I to think I could do anything

All I have are these words brought out of something

Hope fades from my weary body

Passion dies within my eyes

My dream is swept out from under me

All I have are these words of poetry

I have only one conclusion

What never died, was my passion

What still lives is my dream

What’s inside of me is something, not nothing

Now I realize, I see clearly

Before I didn’t see such clarity

How could I be so blind

All this time I was trying to hide

The spirit that lives in me

The heart that beats

This mind of mine

But I’m falling

Falling in love

Falling with hope

Falling in faith

Falling with dreams

Falling to a place

Where I have a face

With a beautiful race

It’s a wonderful taste

Beautiful people

Like a steeple

No more struggle

Spirited people

Now I see

What’s in me

I will never forget it

The spirit of a poet
