A Fools Game

A Fools Game

A Poem by Isabelle S.

Fools-gold colored eyes

Hair as red as a fox’s fur coat

Green cotton waistcoat

Pale skin and greedy smile

Thought you could win me with your tricks and lies

and charming words

A sly fox will cheat and manipulate

at low stakes

Un-locke the door to reveal

a ballroom of dancing fools

Glittering charades and bottomless cups

Cheers to you!

Dizzying delights and splendorous games

I gambled my heart away to you

But this love was never true

I fell for the attention you gave me

hollow kisses and fake smiles

Until your true face was revealed

Sinister heart

baleful grin

You chose her from the very start

Chained and claimed

While I was solely a pretty puppet in your love game
