![]() To Peter, From WendyA Poem by Isabelle S.![]() A conversation between two past lovers whose spark died. Inspired by the song, Peter, by Taylor Swift from the album, The Tortured Poets Department.![]() To my lost fearless leader, Whom I thought was a believer, Years flew by and you never came to ask how I’ve been. The last time I saw you we were kids. Was it something I did? We both made promises, Now I live in bittersweet catharsis When you never grew up, but I did. You just hid from your fears of letting another in. You never came to find me so I figured that you were dead, Did the crocodile bite off your head? Forgive me Wendy, I left your window empty, After all these late nights leaving our dreams lost in the wind My shadow became my demon, and this fight was one I could not win. I’m sorry I flew away and hid. I said I was going to grow up, but fear came and swept me away, From the promises I made. The cut ran deep This blade in my heart Tore me apart Hooking me under the treacherous waters My dreams of us slaughtered I’m sorry for the mess that I’ve made. My dreams of us got lost in a cave. I stared out the window, hoping you’d return But all that I wasted was a candle left to burn. My stories died out I got swept into reality And it became hard to discern Which part of you I loved So tell me Peter, was my pain worth it? So tell me Peter, what have you learned? As I grew up my perspective took a turn, As you remained a lost boy I found myself yearn Please tell me Peter, after all those promises you made Were they also hidden in that cave? I’m done making excuses, They've all turned out useless I know how unforgivable this mess is that I’ve made Is it now too late? Forever entangled in each others embrace I should have never left in the first place I said we were gonna grow up, and our love would remain But I should know better, love never stays the same I set off the grenade I’m sorry to have entertained the lies I laid. © 2025 Isabelle S.Author's Note
