I TOOK A GIRL TO MY MOTHER

I TOOK A GIRL TO MY MOTHER

A Poem by Isaac
"

It's a poem about how beauty sometimes can be deceiving. It's important that character and personality guide us in choosing that partner we want to spend the rest of our lives with.

"
I took a girl to my mother
Her beauty impeccable
Her hair glossy, flowing from her head to shoulders like a dark river
Her eyes clear, glistening like the reflection of the midnight moon on rippling water
Her lips soft and lubricious, coloured like strawberry
Her hands soft and smooth like those of a tender baby
Her nails fragile, well polished and cleaned,
Proud I was
***
But the girl I took to my mother;
Her hair was too glossy for the bundle of firewood
Her eyes too pretty for the smoky hut
Her lips too precious to blow air into the dying flame
Her hands too perfect to peel the cooking bananas
Her nails too fragile to wash the black pot
Ashamed I was
