Routes

Routes

A Poem by Rebecca Isherwood

We begin on a narrow road

Slowly turnoffs begin to appear

Left, right, diagonally

Over the growing traffic, we car hear

The sound of others moving

Traveling on these same roads

Deciding where to turn

Trying to manage heavy loads

Observe the various drivers

Some drive carefully as others speed past

Some ignore signs as they go

Soon to find dead ends don’t last

A turn here, a detour there

The road continues to grow

It gets wider and more broad

When you reach a certain point, you’ll know

It is time to turn off

The main road is not now

Side roads are branching

Explore and you’ll see how

The go deep and keep on

Now one can reflect on past strife

There’s time on the roads less travelled

But we all travel the roads of life.
