A Poem by Rebecca Isherwood

Dirty footprints on
A public sidewalk
The dull roar of
People all tryin' to talk
Blank faces just
Waiting at the bus stop
The lawmen all gathered
In a local donut shop
Fingerprint smudges on
The door to a store
Gum stuck everywhere
And kids chewing more
Trash cans overflowing
Just push it on down
When the bag is full
Throw it on the ground
Taxi cabs all over
But can't catch just one
You try to call out
Every single car is gone
Lights for traffic
Neon for the signs
Crosswalks where
Pedestrians fall in line
Lit up windows
With products galore
Next week they'll come up
With ten million more
Money is green but
Still so very dirty
Corruption corrupts
Only absolutely
Everybody is selling
And most of them lie
If we all sell our souls
Who'd be left to buy?
