A Poem by Rebecca Isherwood
"

2002, first poem I wrote in my Creative writing elective.

"

Run down, broken, out of luck
The average guy just wants to f**k
I take a good look in the mirror
Watching as my death draws nearer

Where has humility gone?
Since when does everyone celebrate wrong?
A child can be a child no more
Innocence has fled right out the door

We grow up quick then want to go back
For this no one has found a knack
No person can go back in time
That is why I make this rhyme

To freeze a moment and describe the scenes
To explain society and all it means
How the entire world has gone to s**t
And to this day we still abuse it

Urban or country it matters not
Our own fate is what we’ve wrought
We’ve caused the chains to break and die
And soon enough will you and I

We’ve killed and squashed to exterminate
All the death I can not relate
This I know and so shall you
Life can no longer start anew.
