Be True To You

Be True To You

A Poem by Rebecca Isherwood
"

Most likely written in 2003, close to the same time as the essay title "Beauty through my eyes"

"

BE TRUE TO YOU
We all lead our lives
In a trap of routine
We see others go down
And don’t care to intervene
We buy products and
Techniques to achieve “beauty”
We listen to the media
And think we need a big booty
Women today see an ideal
Of skinny as hell
An image of Barbie
And flawless as well
This idea should not be pushed
On our impressionable young
When will all
This propaganda be done?
Beauty isn’t being skinny
Or a certain type of hair
It’s not fashionable dress
Or only skin slight and fair
We are all unique
And we need expression
Individuality break free
From age old oppression
We must be true to ourselves
And not be mindless drones
To find our true spirit
And make ourselves known.
