Fever DreamA Poem by The Iron HorsemanA bit of silliness inspired by the novel of the same name.
I was reading a book the other day, About a disease caused by parrots, Its symptoms were heightened creativity, And growing golden carrots.
No, strike that last line, it was the disease talking!
I shouldn't have petted that parrot, In the last bar we were at. The damn thing went and bit me, Now I'm crazy as a bat!
But the disease is good, The disease is fine, Its gift is verse, It supplies the rhyme.
But the sad part is, In that book I read, It kills the host, You end up dead.
So if you don't see, Any more of my rhymes, You will know I've fallen, On hard times.
The disease will have had, Its way with me, But I'll go down fighting, You wait and see.
The nice part about, Having read the story, Is I can change the end, And go out with glory!
Or not, as I choose! © 2017 The Iron Horseman
