Moon Shadow

Moon Shadow

A Poem by The Iron Horseman
"

Life's like that!

"

An owl flies across the moon,

Casting a black shadow.

Life's like that.

The image is beautiful if captured on film,

But the owl brings death to some.

Life's like that.

The moon blazes with light behind the owl,

But the shadow is black as the night.

Life's like that.

The black of the shadow brings fear of death,

But it is the owl that fulfills the promise.

Life's like that.

The grey light of dawn causes the shadow to fade,

The owl returns to its roost.

Life's like that.

The full light of the sun banishes the beauty of the image,

But it allows small creatures to live.

Life's like that.

Is the owl evil? No, the owl just is.

Is the image false? No, it is just ambiguous.

Life's like that.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this poem!!! It's like my two poems "Whooo?" and "Smooth Sailing" got together and had a baby... It would be this poem. OK, so your poem was written way before mine. And you would have to add water. So, maybe my analogy does not fit, but.... There are some similarities... LOL

Anyway, this poem is very masterfully written. I love it. Your authors craft in your repetition superb.

There is an owl who hangs out in a tree outside my bedroom window. He talks to me at night. I will be on the phone or talking to a family member and he responds. I think of anything but death when he is there. It is rather comforting having him there watching over me!! Your poem reminded me of him.

Beautiful poem, Lovely pictures of the owl flying feeding as it must, a small view of the circle of life.
I like the tag line 'Life's like that.' I agree, we only glimpse a small portion of our surroundings throughout our lives.
This is a nice piece.
