PrologueA Chapter by Jazz
Audrey and I were sitting in our apartment watching one of our favorite movies. We're having a 'Favorite Movie Marathon' tonight. My phone started vibrating I picked it up off the coffee table to answer it. "Hey mom" I said
"Honey.." she trailed off sounding like she'd been crying "There's been an accident" "What!? Is everybody okay!?" I started to freak out Audrey paused the movie and turned to face me. Waiting to find out what was going on "Charlie...well he's..." she couldn't say it and she didn't have to I knew what she was going to say "No Mama...no it can't be.." I trailed off as tears started to fall from my eyes "I'm sorry, sweety" she said trying to keep from crying herself Charlie..he can't be dead.. I flew up out of a dead sleep screaming Audrey ran into my room "Dez...what's wrong?" she asked. "I just had the worst nightmare ever" I said as I sat and stared at the wall a cross the room "I'm going to fly back to Arizona" "What? Why?" Audrey asked "I just..have a bad feeling" I said all my life I've dreamt about things before they happen I don't know why but 80% of my dreams come true. I really hoped this wasn't one of them. *The next day* I knocked on the front door of my childhood home I looked around noticing that nothing had changed. Not that I expected it to. Mom answered the door by the look on her face I could tell she was surprised to see me. "Hi sweetheart" she said as she greeted me with a hug. I didn't waste any time "Mama, where's Charlie?" I asked "In his room" mom replied without another word I ran off up the stairs and down the hall to Charlie's room. I didn't bother to knock I just burst through the door and tackled Charlie in a hug. We both fell to the floor Charlie laughed "Hey little sis" he laughed "Good to see you too" "Charlie, I'm so glad your okay" I said Charlie pulled away from the hug and looked at me "Why wouldn't I be?" he asked worried "Dez..did you have another dream?" "I wouldn't call them dreams..more like nightmare or a warning" I said "Or even a chance to change fate" "Dez, you can't change fate" Charlie said "I beg to differ" I said suddnely I noticed Charlie was getting ready for something "Char..what are you going?" I asked "Getting ready to go out, what does it look like?" Charlie replied Oh no your not! I thought to myself "No, no, no Charlie your not going anywhere" I said "Who died and made you boss?" Charlie asked If you'd seen what I saw you would understand "Charlie, you can't go out. You're going to get in an accident and die." I said remembering the heart wrenching feeling I felt after that nightmare or vision or whatever that thing was. "Dezzi relax, I'll be fine" Charlie said Famous last words "No Charlie, you won't..that's what I'm trying to tell you!" I yelled "So what am I supposed to do Dez, just never leave the house again?" Charlie asked "Yep, sounds good to me" I said "Dez, I'll be fine. You know not all of these vision things you have come true" Charlie pointed out "Yeah well I'm not willing to take that risk" I said "I'm going out whether you like it or not, and I promise you I will come back in one piece" Charlie said That's what you think. You might be in one piece big bro but you ain't coming back..unless I have something to do with it "Fine. If you insist on leaving this house than I'm coming with you" I said "Dez. No." Charlie said "Why not? Are you afraid I'm right? And if I go with you I might die too?" I asked "No, its not that. I just.." he trailed off I know my brother and I can tell there's a part of him that fears I might be right and something is about to go seriously wrong. "I'm going with you whether you like it or not" I said throwing his words back at him "I'm not asking Charlie, I'm telling" "Fine." Charlie sighed in defeat Screw you fate, my brother is not dying tonight! *5 hours later* We were driving home when a semi came out of nowhere and was headed straight towards us. "CHARLIE!!" I screamed pointing at the semi Charlie turned his head just in time to see the semi right before it hit us. Charlie leaned over across the seat shielding me hoping to keep the damage to a minimum. The next thing I knew I was waking up in what looked like a hospital room. I looked around and sure enough I was exactly where it looked like I was...in the hospital. I groaned in pain I looked over and saw my mother asleep on the couch. I tried to sit up but a sharp pain shot through my stomach causing me to groan again and lay back down. Just as I laid back down the doctor walked into the room. "Hello Miss O'Malley. I see your awake, how are you feeling?" he asked "Nevermind about me, where's Charlie?" I asked "Mr. O'Malley? He didn't make it unfortunately" the doctor said He's dead? Oh well this is fantastic! "Please tell me your joking" I said with a dead serious face "No, I'm sorry." he said I don't believe it.. he really is dead. Well I guess he was right you really can't change fate. © 2014 JazzAuthor's Note
