Brothers

Voices chasing

up the attic stairs.

A bedroom in the highest tower

of a castle. I’d always

likened myself to

some kind of princess.

A dragon chasing me,

keeping me from getting away.

Killing all

the prince charmings

coming to save me.

The princes coming

to take me away.

 

That dragon was my brother.

If this is a "brain fart", then let's hope you have more! Great piece of writing with a nice twist at the end. I just love plot twists (I am more than slightly odd, if you can tell). One question for you here: your brother is killing all your boyfriends? That's a bit...psychotic. But then again, who doesn't love a well-written poem with some good old-fashioned insanity/scariness thrown in? Remind me never to date you.

First, let me thank you for the review, as standard. And second, let me laugh. It is actually quite the very opposite. My brother does nothing of the sort. I really doubt that he is the type to. But I have yet to test that theory.

Plot twists and insanity are great things, I will agree. So is unpredictability.

I remind you to never date me.

I like this poem a lot. I like how dragons are generally looked at as "evil" but in your poem, it is the thing keeping you safe.

Hahaha. It would seem so, the point of view is supposed to be from a little girl. A "little girl" not knowing that her brother would like to keep her safe from , eh, boyfriends. It does seem like a nightmare, though, I agree :))
