Unblinking

Unblinking

A Poem by Alm
"

She stared back at me, wrapped in a pink blanket.

"

She stared back at me,

wrapped in a pink blanket--

over her mother’s shoulder.

Her small, dark eyes

stared back; unblinking.

Her little hand

reaching out to touch me

in a gesture of what would

be comfort.

But what does she know?

What does she see in those

dark little unblinking eyes?

In her eyes of untainted

unknowing youth?

Perhaps it makes her

all the more perceptive.

Allowing her to see

into the hearts of people,

still judging only from

what she sees.

And I hope she stays this way.

Maybe I was once like her,

wrapped in a pink blanket,

over my mother’s shoulder.

With little unblinking eyes.

So well written. Babies have such an innocence that we all seem to have lost. Also they have such a non-judgmental mentality that so many of us have thrown away. Great job as usual!:)

unblinking eyes, that gives me the image of solemn study, trying to take the world in, contemplating what will be their role in the world and the future, there is an expanse of time ahead to discover everything and I hope too that the innocent stay innocent, that's the precious thing about youth, so much potential for good, you related this beautifully, again I am captivated by your story telling.
