With a Pencil

With a Pencil

A Poem by IonaFaith

Pens are permanent,
There is no room for mistakes,
Everything has to be perfect
First time around
But not with a pencil.

Keep it behind your ear,
Or chewed between your teeth?
Maybe you're tapping against the desk,
Drumming up inspiration
With a pencil.

When an idea strikes
You're ready to record those thoughts,
In a sketch or through words,
Or even just shorthand notes for later.
That's what you can do with a pencil.
