Smiles

Smiles

A Poem by Ioana Mihai

Walking on the streets
On a cloudy day
Everything seems gray
People, mobile creeps
Hurried, buried heads
Into their phones
Into their troubles
Busy, noisy crowds…
Yet they seem so sad
No glow on their faces
Not a greeting word,
Worried souls and eyes
No kindness, no smiles…
It feels like a grief
Everything so stiff
Thus no reason to live
Life as a tragedy.
Passing by a kid
I smile and I greet,
He returns a smile
And a joy so sweet.
Further are the grandpas
I just say hello
And another smile
Making the day glow.
I can glance some flowers
And I go to touch them
To smell and to sense
Their unique fragrance.
Why should we allow
Getting sad and low
If the world looks grim
We still have to dream
Into hope and colours
Into joy and smiles
Bringing love and light
Changing with some kindness
Any pain or darkness.
Make the world to shine
Even with a sparkle
One by one they gather
Into smiles and brightness.
