Night Vigil

Night Vigil

A Poem by Inyourshadow
"

I would rather suffer insomnia than sleep alone

"

Softly you sleep
as I
unable to
keep tender vigil...

my waking dream
made flesh
sleeps
safe beneath
my thankful gaze.

Those eyes
see not mine own
tracing her lips
and chin
her perfect poise
framed
by gilded hair...

I brush back from
blushing cheeks
the wayward
strands
and smile...

she knows not
I cannot sleep
for fear
I will awake.

Shadow, you really do have a way with writing romance. I'm guessing that you have much love in your life for that to be so. I smile for you.

I really enjoy the last stanza. "She knows not I cannot sleep for fear I will awake." That's beautiful.

I really like the simplicity. I enjoyed the ending. It sounded like the choice to stay awake was forced but before that staying awake sounding like a kind of game. good job.
