He was such a nice manA Story by InyourshadowIt's always the quiet ones
The door opens and in walks Harrison, a small unasumming man; middle aged and balding.
His figure and looks once rugged now seemed more ragged, yet his clothes voiced of better times. Their fine tailored weave somehow misplaced in this dingy bedsit with it's glorious view of the gas works. The floral print wallpaper peeled from damp walls and the window had the usual cardboard pane like many of the run down properties these slum lords kept. His room hosted little comfort of home, a small table and a well worn armchair, a bed and a beat up gas cooker and a sink, removed to the side a small bathroom barely more than a closet with a shower and a toilet. He removed a brown paper parcel from his trench coat and laid it down on the table, turning away he removed his jacket and hung it behind the door. Returning to his chair he picked up the parcel and sat down hard, his hands shaking. kicking off his shoes he wriggled and stretched his toes allowing back the blood to numbed feet chilled from the long walk he made every night after work. Slowly he untied the string and placed it back on the table letting the side of the brown paper flop open revealing the greasy blood stain, the contents spilling out made his mouth water as it was a long time since he had seen such a fine piece of meat. Harrison licked his already moistened lips and once more arose, walking in a slow steady gait towards the gas stove. Slipping a pan from the hook beside the cooker he laid it on the hob and slapped in the steak with a delicious slump sound juicey blood pooling around it's form, he pressed ignition and lit the ring the heat making the blood bubble and simmer. He smiled pulling open a drawer beneath the sink and retrieved a large fork, pausing to turn it slowly in his hand enjoying how the light danced from it's polished prongs. The aromatic scent of searing flesh drew him back as again he eyed his prize, fork pierced he flipped the meat and admired the gentle tan. Leaving his supper to sear some more he retrieved from the sink a plate and knife and with a precise movement scewered the steak and transfered it to his platter, this was a moment to be savoured as she had been so good a customer he thought, laughing.
