Ruffled Feathers

Ruffled Feathers

A Poem by Corinna Bridgebury
"

A cat scares a crow and a fight ensues.

"

"Loudest crow I ever heard,"

She remarks, and it's true.

It's a

rapidfire ruckus outside the window

That draws us to look

to see

Crow hunched

with beak open wide

furious

Caw caw caw!

Cat sits below

smiling like it's been in the cream

but it hasn't.

It's been ruffling feathers.

Meow!

Cat calls

Come and get me if you dare!

Cool as a cucumber

like my sister.

And the hotheaded crow above

loud,

keeping out of reach

it like me.

Ruffled feathers equal angry words

that logic refuses

to follow up on.

I laugh so hard I can't breathe

as I lean out the window.
