A Toxic Antidote

A Toxic Antidote

A Poem by Dawn Jones
"

I've never been in a relationship like this.

"
It wasn't about winning
Not tonight
Not this fight

It was the passion in her eyes that kept me going
The heat that filled the room as our voices rose
Drowning the sounds meant to hide the words

I knew this fight would come
When I came home too late
The sky was painted a dusty rose
Her eyes were painted with her pain

It'd been this way for far too long
But I couldn't let her go

She clung to me in desperation
I clung to her in selfishness
The love beneath the surface
A toxic antidote to loneliness

The emotions in this poem are on point. The read was smooth and clean. Loneliness is our only true friend. Good write.

this is beautifully penned
The sky was painted a dusty rose
Her eyes were painted with her pain
I think those are the stand out lines for me.

This is so amazing. I'm sorry that had to happen, but I'm glad you were able to write this.

Its amazing how something can be both painful and beautiful in the same moment.

You never fail to make me think, and this piece really made me think back on my pasts relationships. It's crazy when we stay with someone just to know we have someone to stay with. Wonderfully written.

Very powerful and emotive.

"The sky was painted a dusty rose
Her eyes were painted with her pain"

Haunting also, especially with the final line "A toxic antidote to loneliness".
