Just a Girl

Just a Girl

A Poem by Dawn Jones
"

This poem is written in honor of someone I greatly admire.

"

She’s just another girl in the world

Not very pretty, not very smart

Lost, confused, and lonely

Yet still reaching for her star

She doesn’t know any better

But who does anymore

She just wants to make a difference

In a world so full of wars

Smile for the camera now

A pretty face, for a pretty name

She can’t see her own reflection

As she smiles through her pain

600,000 people

All screaming for her praise

But do they hear the words she says

Or only see her on the stage?

She shouts out her devotion

To a cause to change the world

Holding to the good she sees

In the thought behind each word

She dares to blur the lines beneath

Not seeing black, nor white

Taking all the risks she needs

To stand up in the light

She shines out in the darkness

Her love a beacon in the night

A flame for all to follow

Towards doing what is right

She’s just one girl in all the world

Her beauty is her passion

She’s found herself somewhere within

Faith built in her own fashion

I'm actually quite fond of this poem, and I'm happy to have found it in my suggested readings. I like how in the beginning you wrote 'She’s just another girl in the world
Not very pretty, not very smart'. Then in the last stanza it says, 'She’s just one girl in all the world Her beauty is her passion'. I don't know, I found that interesting. Lovely poem all together though.

Nicely written, i loved here some phrases,

She dares to blur the lines beneath
Not seeing black, nor white
Taking all the risks she needs
To stand up in the light

She shines out in the darkness
Her love a beacon in the night
A flame for all to follow
Towards doing what is right....

I think there's great depth. I loved your poem but these stanza loved much i'd say.
Well written. Great talent you've with your great thoughts'* indeed.

Lovely. Sometimes we all need to stand up and be heard, even if its on a bar stool at the local pub.

This is great. This girl knows she's not perfect, and she overcomes that knowledge so that she can help others.
