Just a GirlA Poem by Dawn JonesThis poem is written in honor of someone I greatly admire. She’s just another girl in the world Not very pretty, not very smart Lost, confused, and lonely Yet still reaching for her star She doesn’t know any better But who does anymore She just wants to make a difference In a world so full of wars Smile for the camera now A pretty face, for a pretty name She can’t see her own reflection As she smiles through her pain 600,000 people All screaming for her praise But do they hear the words she says Or only see her on the stage? She shouts out her devotion To a cause to change the world Holding to the good she sees In the thought behind each word She dares to blur the lines beneath Not seeing black, nor white Taking all the risks she needs To stand up in the light She shines out in the darkness Her love a beacon in the night A flame for all to follow Towards doing what is right She’s just one girl in all the world Her beauty is her passion She’s found herself somewhere within Faith built in her own fashion © 2011 Dawn JonesAuthor's Note
