42 Years Wasn't EnoughA Poem by Chemical Kitten5 stanzas. Love, Death, Old Age.
He whispered in her ear that it was okay to go
And by four am it obvious that she had gone And the tears slipped down his wrinkled cheeks And sobs wracked his aging body until dawn He called the ambulance to come take her away And he stared down the street in silence as it went And he stumbled back into their only home And he wondered if she ever knew how much she meant He called up the family to tell them the news And no one was surprised by what he said And he went back to their only room And reached his fingers over to her side of the bed He bought her flowers for the vase on the table And talked to her all through the night And he played all of her favorite songs And when he fell asleep she would turn off the light He wore a tie to her service at the church And it was soaked with his tears by the end And his daughter spoke of her heroic tale And he wondered when his heart would ever mend © 2013 Chemical KittenAuthor's Note
