Second Best

As child I am classified
As annoying, hyper,
A little pest
With an overactive
Imagination
Too happy, too loud
Lacking in
Self-control

As a teenager I am classified
As tense, uptight
An emo chick
With nothing that
Anybody wants
Too smart, too quiet
Lacking in
Optimism

I have trained myself
To sit still in my seat
And keep my thoughts
And stories to myself

And to be everything
That everybody wants
And still, I am always
Second best

In their eyes,
In their hearts,
Always second best

I can relate to this poem, everyone is always going to say something and you have to remember who you are and be comfortable with yourself and not care what others think. Very good poem as well I like the rhyming scheme and how at different stages of life everyone can be judged no matter what.

if were lucky, in time we all learn to just be ourselves.. take us or leave us, warts and all..

we are who we are.. and its our own opinion of ourselves that matters most..
