Page 17A Chapter by InterijentoWritesElle helped Emily down the stairs and back to the living room. She laid her on the couch and went to the kitchen for a wet rag. She came back and placed the cold cloth on Emily’s forehead. She smiled gratefully and held the cloth in place. Elle sat on the floor against the couch, watching Emily. “What are you going to do?” Emily asked. Elle sighed, defeated. “Im not sure. He’s in my own home, with Conley. I wish I could say Im outnumbered, but I’m really not. He just has the upper hand.” Elle turned and looked at the nearest clock. “And my elements really aren’t going to help me; I can’t burn my house to the ground, especially not with Conley in it. Water, wind, and light aren’t really helpful either.” She said softly. Emily turned onto her side, watching Elle intently. “Ill help.” Elle turned and stared at her. “No. That’s ridiculous. You have your daughter. You could get hurt.” Elle said, turning away, folding her arms across her chest in protest. Emily sighed and stood up from the couch. Elle was about to protest, but Emily shushed her. Emily left the room, and came back after a few minutes. “You’ll need this.” She said softly. She opened a velvet box; inside was a locket on a chain. Emily took either end of the chain and wrapped it around Elle’s neck, clipping them together. Elle touched the locket with her fingertips, then looked to Emily. “What is it?” She asked. Emily smiled. “Its Bryan’s dark magic. He gave it to me when we were together. After we split, I had a feeling it would come in handy.” “Well what do I do with it?” Emily touched the locket. “If you open it when you are ready, it will take away all of Bryan’s power. He will be defenseless.” She said, patting her shoulder gently. “You have the upper hand now, without him even knowing.” Elle smiled and hugged Emily. “Thank you.” She said, her words muffled as she buried her head in Emily’s shoulder. Emily hugged Elle back, and then tilted Elle’s head up. “Bring our Conley home.” She said, kissing her forehead gently. Elle nodded, and made her way for the door. She would have to walk all the way across town to get out of the magical world. It would take her at least an hour. It would be well dark by then. Hopefully that would give her an advantage as well. She had everything she needed; Conley would soon be safe. © 2011 InterijentoWrites |
