Girl in the Mirror

Girl in the Mirror

A Poem by Josephine New

Glaring at the girl in the mirror,
Tears rolling down my face.
They shattered my heart again,
I gave all I have and more.
Stabbed in the back!

Twisting the knife,
Into an already vast wound.
Desperate to be loved,
Needing to be accepted.
Never stop searching for kindness!

Giving more than I am,
Exhausted by the effort.
Spinning, turning, falling,
Collapsing into sadness.
Never feeling enough!

Searching for wholeness,
Begging for love.
Endless loneliness,
Even when surrounded by many.
Never trusting!

Smiling on the outside,
Emptiness on the inside.
My eyes hold my secret,
You can see straight to my soul.
Arching and raging for understanding!

A little girl staring at the mirror,
Pleading to be loved.
Searching for someone to understand,
Someone to stop the spinning.
To simply be enough!

A very strong piece of poetry. Reflecting a yearning to be seen and accepted as the person you are. There is a lot of emotion behind the words that can be felt by the reader. No doubt these words will be relatable to many who read them. In your author's note you ask a question that many a writer ask. The answer is simple. You grow by writing. You don't force it, you refine it. You go in with no expectations and appreciate the audience you might gain. Writing is a lifetime journey and craft. If one goes into it expecting immediate celebrity they will be disappointed. It takes hours, days, and years to improve. To hone your voice and writing style. You do it one word at a time. One story or poem at a time. What you write has to mean something to someone in order to move them on an emotional and human level. It needs to resonate in their soul. Read the works of other writers. Gain insight from their works. Learn how they are able to capture the attention of their readers mind by the stories they write and the style they do it in. Take writing courses and apply yourself every day in learning something new about this craft. Writing isn't so much a profession but a way of life. A lifestyle that grows with you if you continue to nurture it.

In this 'Cvid world' where strangers are to be avoided; or, just kept some distance apart.
It can, so easily feel alone and unloved.

Boy and girl, living at home, with close family
They stand six feet away for their love talk
neither wants to catch anything to take back to their family

She brings a present and places the parcel on the ground, then she stands aside while he carries his present to her. past her and places it inside the open car door, on the floor.
He puts on disposable gloves to pick up her present, to him to take inside

They want and need each other

Hard sometime to find peace in our messy world dear Josephine.
"A little girl staring at the mirror,
Pleading to be loved.
Searching for someone to understand,
Someone to stop the spinning.
To simply be enough!"
The above lines. Honest and direct. I believe we get better as writers, keep reading and writing. The more we know, the better we can write. Thank you for sharing your amazing poetry and your thoughts.

A strong emotional write. When you give all you can and receive nothing in return, it can hurt like hell. The girl in the mirror is a sensitive soul. She wants some love and understanding. Not a lot to ask in the circumstances. Thank you for sharing your work Josephine.
