Frightful Nights

Frightful Nights

A Poem by Catherine Frain

Orange lights hanging like long, thin fingers,

from the shadowy depths of the branches of a tree.

Orange faces stare at you from shadowy depths.

On doorsteps or sidewalks, a face designed to fright.

Bats lay against the leaves, wings spread ready for flight.

Children running screaming with delightful fright.

Goblins running down the streets,

little feet hitting the pavement with loud thuds.

Pointed hats of black, float along on the heads

of trick or treaters, as they skip along.

Bags of scrumptious candy bang across

legs of excited eager children as they

go house to house in a frenzy for candy.

Cold wind blows, kissing as the flames

of the jack-o-lanterns that frighten,

sending chilling waves through the body.

The moon floating high in the sky,

watch out for the werewolves that

roam during the nights, and

the vampires that will feast upon you.

What you see may not be what is actually there.
