Snow Days~ A Charles III Family StoryA Story by Catherine FrainHi. My name is Victoria Michelangelo Zachary Charles III, and I am a young seven years old. I am the youngest out of like seven children, only two of them I know. My two eldest sisters: River Van Gogh William Charles III and then Scarlett Donatello Richard Charles III. They are also twins. My Daddy is named: Steve Steven Stevenson Richard Charles III. Our mother was just Ally Charles III. I have two more sisters named Natasha Leonardo Anthony Charles III and Amelia Beethoven Christopher Charles III. I have one brother: Emmett Mozart Cassandra Charles III. Bonjour. Welcome to The Adventures of The Charles III family. *************************************************************************** “VICTORIA! SCARLETT!” came the excited call of my second eldest sister- River. I jumped as I had been asleep. “WHAT!” I yelled back as I went to change into proper clothing. “It snowed, let’s go play outside!” came her happy voice once more. One thing you might want to know about River, she is actually a pyromaniac., ironic right? I perked up, the perfect time to mess with Daddy. “Coming!” I pulled on some snow boots and grabbed my parka. I stomped down the stairs and smiled at my twin sisters. “Lutte de boule de Neige? [Snowball fight.]” I asked, in my usual chirpy like voice.- no wait, that was a lie. I am not the perfect innocent looking little girl. Scarlett shrugged. “I need a break. So yeah, we can have a snowball fight.” “Lutte de boule de Neige? [Snowball fights].” came Daddy’s voice. Oh, the ginger haired man, kinda fat, pale. A total gamer. “Ne me blessed pas d'accord? [Do not hurt me okay?]” Daddy said. Of course, Daddy would tell us not to hurt him, or maybe he was just talking to me. I am just kinda abusive. “D’accord Papa.” I skipped out of the house, without anything else said. Scarlett and River sighed and followed after me. I was skipping around the snow covered yard by myself. “Vous dehors ici? [You out here?]” I called out. “Calm down Victoria! We’re coming! Nous sommes juste là. [We are right here.]” River muttered as I skipped over to her, throwing a snowball at her. “Surprise!” I squealed and ducked as Scarlett ducked down and quickly stomped a snowball together. She launched it at me, hitting me across the shoulder. The hit was felt even through my jacket. I saw River kneel down and pick up some snow, compacting it into a snowball that she threw at Scarlett. It landed hard on the back of her head. Scarlett turned and yelled, “VOUS ÊTES UNE DOULEUR DANS LE BOUT! [You are a pain the butt!]” Before running after her twin with a hand full of snow, shoving it down in between the collar of her coat and her neck. She then promptly kicked her down into the snow. “Don’t mess with the evil genius.” “Diminuez-moi, la soeur. [Let me up, sister.]” River whined to Scarlett, who only dug her heel a little deeper into her back. “ENFANTS! ENFANTS! ENFANTS!” Daddy yelled from the house, causing Scarlett to push River away, River scampering up, and me standing with two snowballs in hand. I threw them at Daddy before he growled under his breath. “Stop fighting!” We all broke out laughing and we all gave each other a look and picked up snow to pack it into a snowball and then launched it at Daddy. “NON!” we cried out, after all, he wasn’t the best father. I mean he worked at a circus. “Enfants..” he muttered under his breath. “À beaucoup de filles. [To many daughters.]” “Enfants!” came Mommy’s voice, she was leaving to go to work once more. We all stopped and waved bye. “Bye Mama!” I turned around and looked at Scarlett, who with her funnybunny, has built a snowball cannon, and it was powered by her funnybunny. “You going to use that against Daddy?” “I may. I may not. Or I will use it to mess with River.” I shrugged and skipped off to go and make a snow fort. River was just being her weird self and was just sitting in the snow creating snowballs, not bothering to make any protection. I laughed as I saw. Who was going to feel sorry for her? Not me, and not Scarlett- she would probably laugh at her pain. Daddy was sitting on the stairs that made up the first part of our porch. “Ne tuez pas l'un l'autre! [Do not kill each other!]” came Daddy’s call. I just laughed and continued to build my snow fort. Scarlett was in her area of the large front yard, hidden behind a wall of snow, as she and FunnyBunny worked to create a more high tech cannon to launch snowballs. Block by block, my snow fort came to be. High as my head, which wasn’t very tall...since I am well short. Finally, Scarlett yelled, “On my mark! Trois. Deux. Un. [Three. Two. One.]” The next thing I knew, snowballs were flying, hitting against my sisters and Daddy of course. We kept throwing snowballs till we grew tired. I crawled across the snow till I reached the porch, where Daddy and the twins sat. ***************************************************************************************** Snowball fights dropped, cups of hot chocolate in our freezing hands, we sat around the fireplace in the living room. I sat in front of the fire, feeling it’s warmth on my face. My cocoa was on the floor beside me. Scarlett was in a chair, with a book in her lap as she read. River was throwing stuff into the fireplace, her eyes glowing like a child who was in a candy store did. She’s still that pyromaniac with her ironic name of River. Daddy was who knows where in the house, probably nursing his “Injuries” that we all caused. “Que voulons-nous faire maintenant? [What do we want to do now?]” Scarlett asked. “Nous pouvons aller le patinage sur glace? [We can go ice skating?]” River chimed in. “Non. You don’t even ice skate, River...” Scarlett muttered turning her gaze to me. “Victoria and I can, as we both know how.” I giggled at her comment, as River stomped her foot. “You’re no fair Scarlett! I wanna try!” “No. You will just embarrass yourself. I would rather not be hurt by the fact that YOU can not even manage to ice skate. So no, you can not try!” Scarlett let out in a huff of breath. “That’s not fair!” River whined to her twin. “I don’t even care!” Scarlett glared at her. She stood up and said, “Come Victoria. Let’s go and get our skates so we can go out to the pond.” “Okay, Scarlett!” I said happily pushing myself to my feet, before skipping from the room. Scarlett followed after me, with a smart grin upon her shaded face. River stood facing the fire once more. Scarlet tet moi [Scarlet and I] headed up the stairs, to the bedrooms that lined the landing. Mine was the closest to the stairs. Scarlett has the corner room, which was the biggest of them all. River’s room was in between Scarlett's room and Mommy’s room. Daddy had a separate room. We both stepped into our rooms and went to find our skates. I dug through all of my things that littered the bottom of my closet. I pulled out my skating parka- it had extra padding just in case I fell or was pushed... But no anyways....once we both had collected out skates, we headed out to the frozen pond that was in our yard. It was quite big, considering the fact that I was only seven and hadn’t seen anything bigger. Its ice was clear showing the blue sluggish water below. Around the pond was a strip of sand- creating the illusion of a beach. Trees and plants grew along the sand, making it seem more tropical and happier than it was. A small piece of paradise, for a large family that would never truly be able to see paradise. Yeah, sad to know that our family would never be able to see anything that was exotic or nice or anything that even mimicked paradise. I slid on my skates before I pushed myself into a standing position, taking small steps till I reached the ice, where I allowed myself to slide forward. Scarlett was already in the middle of the pond, she has a lot more experience than I did. River was, of course, standing on the edge of the pond, her arms crossed. She wasn’t happy and it was clear to tell. But she really didn’t know how to ice skate, and this wasn’t the day that Daddy would be willing to teach her. Maybe in a day or two. Scarlett was going in circles as I slowly skated around in figure 8. It was what I did every time we started to ice skate. I got me used to being on the ice and made me prepared to have more fun on the ice. Scarlett and I always played on the ice, sometimes it may be a bit too much. It was about ten minutes later then I skated over to Scarlett and smiled. “Ready to play?” “Don’t you know it!” Scarlett said in nearly a very sassy-filled tone, she loved to mess with me. We were playing on the ice for a while before Scarlett skated over to me as if I had something that she needed. She pushed me, maybe not so hard, but I am little. Et je suis tombée sur la surface glacée de la poussée de Scarlett. [And I fell upon the ice from Scarlett’s push.] “HAH!” comes a fake laugh before the rest of the natural laugh came from River’s frame from the pond’s edge. Scarlett was skating around me chanting, “I WIN! I WIN! I WIN! I WIN!” I just groaned and said, “SCARLETT!!!! NO FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU NEVER LET ANYONE ELSE WIN!!!” “It’s because I always win!” I grumble as I stand up, and stormed away, Scarlett falling upon the ice from the amount of laughter that was escaping from her. I skated away, till I got to the edge of the pond where I stomped my way back to the house- where Daddy was at. Scarlett and River followed slowly behind me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Snow falls in waves, across the bare hills. Dunes are created from the snow- creating a snowy beach. Screams of joy and excitement- can be heard from many miles away. Paths are created in the snow- sled tracks and footsteps deep in the snowy depths. The snow sparkles in the sunlight- a sight to see. A pond is barely seen in the distance- the frozen water shining as the sunlight shines upon it. Small distant figures skate upon the smooth surface, two girls- hair pulled into ponytails, hidden under hats. One going in a figure eight- the other in circles. A single, lonely figure was along the bank of the pond- watching her sisters with a bright-eyed expression. Alors avec un bouton- la plus jeune tombé sur la glace. The girl on the shore shouted, The eldest of them all called out, “I always win le pain!” The youngest lay upon the ice and said, “It’s not fair Scarlett!” Snow falls upon the heads of these girls- creating an air of fun and mischief. The three girls left the pond- and went up to their house, a grand house in their eyes. Inside they went, to escape the winter’s harsh cold. Gathered around the fireplace, mugs of hot chocolate with those little marshmallows in them, were placed in hands of cold girls. © 2017 Catherine Frain |
