Yet we fear

Yet we fear

A Poem by Catherine Frain

We see and we hear.
We fear what we don’t.
It is in everything that is here,
This deep-seated hatred.

This fear is irrational.
To fear what is not,
And to fear what is “abnormal”.
To make those who are innocent,
Into senseless monsters.

From the fabled tales of
Vampires, werewolves, and witches,
Has sprung a hatred for all
Mankind to follow with the example.

From the hatred sprung
From men of old,
Comes the hatred of those
Who are not monsters,
Just different in love’s ways.

We see and we hear,
Yet we fear what we don’t.

Is there an actual reason behind it?
Or it is just the mind’s
A way of telling us...something.
