During work week home does feel like a sanctuary. Awesome poem muse here. Super cool refrain. I ESP like the creative stanza of "chained to a paycheque " and the rest is great too. Kudos.
I'm a newbie here, u may read my poems too.

Thank you for your words. I"m glad you liked my poem.
You have poetically expressed the feelings of so many lost in the jungle of the work week. Sanctuary is indeed home and where the heart is for most. Where are all these people that win the lottery? I have never met one.

I've read that most who win a big prize are back to where they were financially within a few years. it's not so much the amount of money one has, but what one does with it that brings financial success and security I think.
i understand this all 2 well if only there was a way 2 break free from the gears and not lose all you have strived for or there was a simpler way to pick yourself up off the floor when you have lost your job to keep your sanctuary instead of cold and alone with no true home

I've been trying to find my way since my job was eliminated, but I'm a slow learner! Some great books to read are 'Think and Grow Rich' by Napoleon Hill, "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki, and the ever popular Dale Carnegie "how to win friends and influence people'. I'd also recommend finding a life coach if you are serious about earning income from what you want to do with your life.
This is wonderful writing! It's so interesting because I just recently had a deep conversation with someone about this very type of thing...jobs, taught to go to school so that you secure a job, doing the same thing day in and day out all for a paycheck, etc. And this captured that sort of essence. Great job

I find that most people tune out and don't really hear you when you say stuff like jobs are not secure anymore or try to talk about other ways to gain income without becoming a 'paycheck slave'. LOL

I can't see chaining myself down to the typical 9-5 job, doing something every single day just for 'financial security', whatever that means these days. I'm an artist/creative person and I've been trying to find my own path in life while everyone around me doesn't know how to support that since they are all what you refer to as 'paycheck slaves'. Which by the way, I love that term. ;)

To get lost in the arms of sanctuary, on a musical way... the words dance, as thy thoughts, and in these thoughts, Nice write sir! a rich longing..
Your misery can be felt and gives greater meaning to the idea that one should choose a job path that they'll enjoy. Claire, below, has a good idea for it making a good song.

I don't mean to pick on you at all Sam, it's endemic in our society. We are taught that 'job' is the definition of financial security and any other path is for the very lucky few and the unlucky who fail or are too lazy to 'get a real job'. In this poem I had hoped to show the futility of 'working for a living'. The world has moved on, the industrial age has ended and the Information Age appears to be on the brink of giving way to some new Age.
Yet we are taught, and we teach our children to get a good education, find a good job, and save money. The strategy that is going to land 90% of us baby boomers totally reliant on the government in our retirement years.
