Just One More Chance

Just One More Chance

A Poem by Mark
"

Ever want to be young again with the mind and heart you have now?

"
I pour a cup of borrowed time
into the hour glass.
Once I gulped from an ocean
but now I sip from the pond.

Too many concentric rings
and the banks got wet.
Too many pilgrims
and not enough sandals.

Where did the sand go?
Somewhere is a beach
filled with the granular
memories of what has been.

I push against the tide
wanting to go back,
to know what I know
and to live again.

I need a  do-over.

No problem :) ive missed being able to get on here
you have crept into my mind mark, are we getting old, the concept of knowing something back then that we know now is an interesting idea, how much might we have made things better is a question that hangs out there in the ether.

It's a nice daydream but sour grapes might be more appropriate. Thanks paddy.
If I knew then...the imagery and philosophical tone in this is palpable. I especially love those first two lines:

I pour a cup of borrowed time
into the hour glass.

That's poetic brilliance.

Thanks so much CLaire
A lovely, powerful peace with an dynamic philosophy. The rhythm is great, the tone flawless, and the imagery full of passion, emotion and beauty. Very well-crafted.

do-over, hey. Those they don't hand out too often. Man, do I relate to this one. I like to think there are alternate universes where I made the right choices. As always love to read your pen.

Yes maybe we get to choose one when we leave this one?
When we have the zest, we lack the wisdom and when we have the wisdom, the zest is gone. Life is a bit unfair but then we have to make the best of what we have now and because now is all we have. Some great imagery and a very good conclusion. Thoroughly appreciated.

Thank you very much for reading.
Don't we all, as they say 'youth is wasted on the young'...if only. Love this one Mark, 'a cup of borrowed time' is brilliant, my favorite of yours.
