Reckless

Reckless

A Poem by Mark
"

walking one night in a city... this just came to me, it's only vaguely personal.

"
Walking canyons in the darkness
cones of light knock down shadows
others cower under steel and glass
watching for me to be reckless.

I was missing soft forest sounds
the tinkling brook, wind and tree
I felt I was always caught ;
stark helpless on asphalt.

Everyone's a stranger with no face
no smiles, no voice I recognize.
I want to be part of this city's life
but it refuses to be part of me.

I always feel separate in the city. I would make a marvelous hermit. I love nature more than people sometimes! I love the 'helpless on asphalt' line. I see the trucker in you in this piece. You don't name a city, it is just 'walking one night in a city.'

ya, I didn't even think about that... LOL I walk in so many cities!
the separation from beauty and the feeling that others expect harm from you......this takes me down a road i left years ago.....it is easier to embrace the pain and blame yourself...even when you know you are pure of heart...others who are pure will know this...it is not a vision, hearing or other of the five known senses....it is the spirit of living...we have forgotten this way....i love your poem, it is a step in the right direction.

Reminds me of the times I've been to NYC. I love the place but you gotta watch your surroundings. I swear the Taxi drivers try to hit pedestrians in that town.

LOL I haven't read it in awhile, but ya.. it reminded me of walking in Manhatten about 4 am.
Ah, the traveler's woes... Everywhere, but really nowhere. Does it have as much meaning when not shared with someone? A clever writing, Mark. I do think traveling alone can be very therapeutic for the soul for a period of time, but sooner or later it gets... Heavy on the heart.
