Sitting on the bank

Sitting on the bank

A Poem by Mark
"

I've been told I think too much. If you don't think so, perhaps you think too much to!

"

I sit by the river.

With sieve in hand, I search the sands

looking for the sparkling moments,

and the ones which were dark.

I wonder what they all mean

and if their importance is

only in the grainy memories

of those who partook.

I sit and listen while

My sculptures of sand that may or may not

have any relationship with the actual events,

laugh,

and some cry.

Was it evolution that gave us this need

for meaning?

Some day,

it will all be just sand again.

I like the flow of this contemplation. Tying water and sand to it makes this a piece mellow and reflective. Nicely done. Angi~

I guarantee Mark you will not be disappointed. Sheema writes some amazing poetry.
it is natural to find meaning of life and of ourselves. whatever the answers are we all end up in the same place. a great reflection on life and our place in it. excellent job.

you may think too much, NOT! There is no such thing. Now you and I both know that I TALK too much........LOL...I know exactly what you mean about those sand castles that stand and those that fall and we wonder did it even matter........love your writing Mark.

Good write, what I like is the subtle, careful enjambement, a paced poem written with a lot of care, emotive and impressive.

Sounds like a good piece of reflection which is always useful if you come out unscathed! Only a fisherman could have penned this one. Nice flowing and thought provoking Mark.

I love this piece. Navel contemplation should always take place sitting by a river...the clarity of thought is so much sharper. The transient nature of all profundity is bright in this poem. P.

I agree with the final lines.
"Was it evolution that gave us this need
for meaning?"
I like the way you led the reader into the question. Dust to dust. Dirt to dirt. Man will rot and become part of the earth. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.
