The Cypress

The Cypress

A Poem by Mark
"

For a new friend

"
Hope is a Cypress
cracking tendrils
through solid rock.
Churning sustenance from
the barren land
holding tight to the cliff.
Growing, twisted in the wind;
thriving, thrusting branches
growing leaves of redemption.
Defiant and strong
courageous and beatiful
she conquers, she lives, she thrives.

Hi Mark a very good and descriptive poem. The analogy of friendship is very apt. The flow is good and it reads easily.

Unusual to give hope such a strong implacable presence, but it works. You anchor the image with those 'i's in 'tight' and 'cliff' and the 'thriving' 'thrusting' branches can push aside any obstacle.

Hope is more implacable than any of us realize I think. Thank you for your review John. :)
Second "growing"? sprouts, percolates , Hope is Gods protecting grace.I like it.

Oh! I just spent some time with cypress trees on the river lately and this poem reminded me of how amazing they are! They are magical and to link them to hope is an amazing image. Love it!

Absolutely wondrous, hope is something I personally cling to and never let loose of. I think the day that I do, if that ever happens, I will not want to live.
