The GirlA Poem by MarkI've been keenly aware of my single status lately. In the shadow formed by the absence of you, I sit sifting cold sand; fine grains streaming, then drifting finally dribbling through tired fingers. Watching the grains fall I don't have to think of the shadow but can dream of a warm sun and a girl to share it with. In my dreams, faded in an old mind colored by a young heart mourned by a soul that is torn, I try to focus you, know you, remember you. Watching the scenes change, the costumes come and fall, the author sweats and rolls, moaning, for the girl. In the day's new light, the sun is warm and welcome, Still, less and less its rays replace what's missing. Closing my eyes, feeling the warm redness through my eyelids I wonder; what happens when the sun doesn't work, and there is still no girl?
