One starry night under the cover of darkness
On my door knocked the night
I peered out the window with weariness
Open the door; what happenings might?
A stallion of black stood outside
With no rider mounted
Of me, a question lay inside
Fortune or mischief, on counted?
Knocked again did the lone rider
Outside or in must he be?
Must I let this Rider in?
What affair will he bring upon me?
One step forward, one step behind,
Opened or locked the way should be.
I feel a stab in my back
What does my conscience want of me?
I peeked out the window once again,
Neither stallion nor rider was there
So I listened to see if he would knock
To go outside I would not even dare
As I go back to my regular night doings
I spin around to see the night’s nothing’s
The night taps me on the shoulder
For a moment, I could swear I could hear a “her”
Sweetening singings filled the air
A melody so delightfully dulcet
So sweet, I could be so calm
However, on my mind, it was obliterate
So sweet, yet so sour
So dark, yet so bright
So calming, yet so alarming
So quiet, yet so loud
So light on my head
Yet so heavy on my heart
So bothersome it has become
But from it, I wish never to depart
Fiddle as a mouse, was I
Irresistibly seductive, was it
Curiosity had the best of me
Who might this peculiar song be?
I peeked out the window once again,
Neither stallion nor rider was there
So I listened to see if she would sing
But her song did not begin
One starry night under the cover of darkness
On my door knocked the knight
Never to part I wish of that dark
On my heart it had left it’s mark
