Anniversary

Anniversary

A Poem by Brandon Wile

We had cheeseburgers

On a cold anniversary

In winter a dimly lit bar

No glances exchanged

Half hearted conversation

Eyes glued to screens

Par for the course

Toast to wasted years

Both yours and mine

This is the last time

I had a cigarette

Even though I just quit

Just to piss you off

Craving some authentic

Just to take off the edge

In realizing you weren't it

I faced this January alone
