The Distance

The Distance

A Poem by Brandon Wile

The years are body blows

Swinging wildly to strike

If only we connected

As often as they do..

It seems almost poetic

The crippling blow landed

Right above the cheek

And it felt like consequence

The distance divided us

Phone calls disconnect

Our "better days ahead"

Turned to silence in the end

Idle planes on runways

Reflect the nights alone

Moments from departure

Still waiting by the phone

One last aimless kiss

Wouldn't change a thing

But leave we'd feel alive

As we go down swinging
