What If

What If

A Poem by Inked Superman

I can't stand the term What If,
Heart in my mouth, at the edge of a cliff
I've always been the type to run,
With you I freeze, my soul undone.
These feelings are very new to me,
Everyday learning, a new way to be
One voice says to take a stance,
force myself to take the chance.
Our time together, full of intrigue,
Then the crushing thought, you're out of my league.
I argue that I have no choice,
But when I try, there goes my voice
Hoping to God, praying each day
Our paths will again cross, it will go my way
Instead, alone, I lie, body stiff,
Killing myself with the simple What If.
