We had nothing, yet, we had everything !

We had nothing, yet, we had everything !

A Poem by Ink Angel
"

Childhood memories, about me and my best buddy Chris, happy days.

"

We had nothing, yet, we had everything!

As far back as I remember

You were always there

We played imaginary games

Under the pale moon light till ten at night

Older ones looking out for us then

You were always my best friend

The Welsh Estate they called it!

We were one big happy family

All helped each other, borrowed a cup of sugar, or tea

Doors were never locked, greeting all who passed

We were all in the same boat, not much money to our names

We had nothing, yet, we had everything

We never worried; we carried on playing our games

You walked your rabbit on a lead

That was the funniest part indeed

Sat on that step outside my house

We chat and laugh

Our Mums at the gate

One more Ciggie “Let Em wait”

At yours, your Dad would always appear with

Vast amounts of spuds to share

 No one would go without

Wood for the fire was scarce

A skirting board would disappear and be replaced another year

The fire would glow; we bathe in its glory warming us through

Our Mums would sit there, legs burning looking like Cornbeef

Five more minutes they’d say, then time for bed

Bonfire night was such a thrill

We would build a guy and call him Bill

All gathered on the green

The whole estate in perfect harmony

Mesmerised by the orange and red flames

Leaping like ribbons

Into the night, and old Bill would go up in smoke

Shame really he was a nice bloke

In the woods we would gather in our gang

And make a camp, and there we would hideaway, with a feast

Of bread and jam, our secret hideaway for the summer

Friends through life they pass us by

But you were always there when I cried

Thank you

I oftern wondered why we had this bond

My sister told me we were together since birth

Sharing the same cot, or pram, gurgling and

Chatting in our secret language

As our Mums went about their day

We would kick our legs and play

Thankful for every day

This reads like a rainbow on a sun-shiny day. Delightful and brimming over with stuff that oldies like me can fully relate to. Nay your pen never run dry......N

This is so beautiful.
God, I miss being as happy as I was when I was little.
Oh well.
Great write. Touches a nerve.

This was beautiful. Childhood actually seems much more magical, hopeful, which gradually fails us, as we grow older. However, there's this sense of faith, and loyalty, that has managed to keep up with you, and your gratitude for your friend was written rather beautifully, magical memories taking you on a journey once again, where money doesn't matter, only love does. The title itself is great, shows how 'everything' refers to love, and good friendship, and I love the whole overall optimism.
