Yesterdays' RainA Poem by A.J.Yesterdays’
Rain
Sometimes,
the worst part of the storm is when its over. When everything,
or everyone is gone, and you’d give anything just to see their raindrop silhouettes standing somewhere in the distance, waiting
tearfully just for you to notice; But you
know that sort of thing is the stuff of fairy tales- fictional stories we tell
to children Just to
make them believe in this thing called hope, or faith, or anything of the like,
even though
we ourselves, lost such fancies long, long ago. Long before
the storm- Before Yesterdays Rain. It’s the burden
of the air as you sift through the ruins, even if you know there is nothing
left to cherish It’s the cold
that strikes your bones when there is nothing to hold close for warmth- It’s the backside
of the storm as it rolls on- ever more distant, yet you can still it thunder; It still cries havoc- though somewhere else;
dragging the pieces of you along for the ride Though its
you that feels impaled lifeless
It’s the voices
on the winds that push along their way Echoing “that
was your mistake… your mistake..”
It’s the mud
you drag up trying to dig yourself a grave Just to
watch it fill back up, as if a broken ship Bound for
Davy’s Depths
Funny how
life’s greatest gifts can turn into its most terrible of curses- whether by
flood, bolt, Or the most
dreaded of words-
Sometimes,
even if the rain is not falling at all, The skies
seem like they never intend to clear..
Yesterdays’
Rain come todays’ wrenching pain; Regrets
brought up from the earth by the floods
And for
once in your life, You long,
beg, with everything you’ve got left for a little light to shine down through these
vicious clouds- leftovers
