One Winged Dove

One Winged Dove

A Poem by Aaron Parker
"

The inspiration for this poem was a mistaken lyric from "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks. It's quite short but quite powerful.

"

Like a one winged dove

Our unstable love

As it spirals out of control

Like a ravenous black hole

*

One wing flaps wildly

While the other beats silently

Trying to stay above the ground

While our collective heart pounds

*

How were we able to take flight

With the singular might

Of a white feathered wing,

What a horribly silly thing

*

To death do we fall

Our minds, hearts, bodies and all

My wing gesticulates despite my fate

While you, floating, search for a new mate

*

Save yourself while there is time

Darling, my death knell chimes

Don't sacrifice yourself on my accord

Let me break apart on the upcoming sward

*

As I die, falling with clear end

My heart wends

As I buffet the ground

Of flesh, every demon gets a pound

I live for truthful feedback! Reviews (yes, even very negative ones!) are very appreciated! I am interested in improving as a poet, the only way to get better is through criticism. Thanks!
