Permanence

Permanence

A Poem by The Ink Chapters
"

Make it what you will.

"
It follows me everywhere
A dark cloud in the night
Keeping me in shadow
the street light that goes out when I walk by
the stranger on my heel
Except now he has me
Now and forever
That stranger I tried to avoid
But knew with some foreboding certainty
With intense fear
It would one day have me
For the rest of time
And I can’t escape
No matter what I do
Unless I die
But I refuse to die
Because I will conquer anything
Even if I suffer
I will not lose
I will find my way
Somehow
Even if it is now different
But the feeling is haunting
Like eternity holding you in its grip
It manifests
I try to deny

But I lose myself

I went thru several series of ideas as I was reading. This reminds me of anxiety, the unseen entity hanging on one's shoulder, about to strangle at the least provocation. But then I got down to the part where the narrator is being determined & it reminded me of just having any number of issues to deal with, people with problem kids, money problems, mental issues, whatever . . . we've all got that haunting piece of crap dangling down our backs & we have to keep fighting onward. I love this poem! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Scary, almost haunting. I felt the reaper was a foot behind me. Far too close for comfort.
