Even If I have No Religion

Even If I have No Religion

A Poem by Doyin Adeoye
"

About beliefs and faith...

"

Often while we run to religion,

We forget God behind.

You love and seek the temple,

Yet you clutch evil so tightly in your wallet.

One religion, many faces!

That one thing that should bring us together,

Have now become a tool of societal classification.

I see some with no religion,

They probably lost it because of a religion.

Let love be your scripture,

Live your religion, and people would come to love it.

How can you love God,

When you despise His children.

I may not know your religion,

But I understand kindness.

I may have no religion,

But I love you enough to respect your beliefs.

I believe there are no bad religions,

There exists only bad people.

How badly have we misconstrued the Deity.

Of what use is the Book you read?

And the holy words you speak,

When you do not act upon them.

I believe in God,

In that is faith,

I believe in good,

In that is a religion.

I believe in giving,

In that is a doctrine,

I believe in positive thoughts,

In that is prayer.

I believe in you,

In that is hope,

So even if I have no religion,

I am more than spiritual.

And even if I gave up on religion,

I am back to God.
