I opened the paper and read a story today
About an abused girl who ran away
Who knows what was going through her head?
No one will know; the next day she was found dead
Turned on the radio and just happened to hear
A story about a soldier who lives not far from here
His convoy was bombed in the heart of Baghdad
He never got to hear that he was going to be a dad
Why does this happen? Why won’t it stop?
Give me your pain; our lives we can swap.
I’m tired of people taking more than their toll.
I’m tired of feeling like I have no control.
Went home on the bus, heard a man talk
About a friend of his who was mugged and then shot
“He loved to swim.” sobbed the man’s friend
“Now he’ll never be able to swim ever again”
I turned on the T.V. and the anchor explained
About a young woman held hostage by a gang
She cried as they kept her still with a gun
Not caring that she just had a newborn son.
Why does this happen? Why won’t it stop?
Give me your pain; our lives we can swap.
I’m tired of people taking more than their toll.
I’m tired of feeling like I have no control.
