CRazY CoRoNa Times

CRazY CoRoNa Times

A Poem by Riya
"

I just wrote it randomly in one go without much thought but I tried to portray what thoughts might be running inside the minds of school students during lockdown:-/ I hope it is relatable!

"
I wake up at 8,
then I wash up my face.
Brushed my pale teeth,
Mom calling for a meal.
Ready for an online class,
that unfortunately don't last more than an hour.
Reason being a poor connection,
corona spreading like a stubborn infection.
Confused and depressed,
"what to do and what not to do" all over my head.
Scrolling and typing seems easier today,
we guys don't even know how might be the next day.
Eyes are watering, days are longer,
health is shortening, nights are bit warmer.
Everyday a new time table,
but never followed on studytable.
Empty mind like a home of unstable,
though I know I am capable.
But these ugly vibes are even more stronger,
that my mind began to wonder.
Fight or fright?,
all depends on your sight, so choose it right.
and you might!
you might!
so, just fight.....

The way you penned your thoughts so vividly in this poem, and as you say in one go, is impressively creative. I can empathize with all of what you have captured here. It's indeed tough times for everyone, and a unique challenge for teenagers and young adults, with all this online hassles in schools and colleges, and job crunches. I'll say India has suffered the worst brunt of it all. Well when this lockdown started I was already almost done with B.tech college days and I've recently graduated, so I had less of the online stuff, but I feel sorry for juniors who are set to miss campus life. But have faith my friend. I presume you are in college or uni. Best wishes.

My favorite rhyming lines are here! Such a perfect narrative poem, Riya! This was in such a brilliant flow and I must say, you've got a talent to connect every line so nicely. Thanks for sharing!

The truth is in why we brush our teeth not how we brush them.

The monkey lives for as long as you let it.

Long ago when I went to school, I found it hard to sit still for one class & we'd burst out into the hallway to talk to people & to move & to rush to the next class before the bell rings. I can't imagine not having the social interaction of school life, even tho I'm not a very social person. Your poem conveys that sense of not being able to sit still & concentrate, doing online classes at home. Even tho you paint a strong word tapestry of how this isolation can be, I think this message could be strengthened by adding a comparison to what is missing from this scene (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you so much ma'am for your suggestions :)
I do understand the poem. My poor grandchildren doing home school. The internet wasn't ready for so many children on the computer 7 hours a day. I wish for the old days. Seem so far away. Hello dear Riya. I hope these coronaviras days end ASAP. Thank you for sharing your words and thoughts.

Hi Riya, as a teenager stuck at home during the pandemic trying to create order and a schedule when everything is changing, I really loved and related to this poem! It's hard during these times to focus when the world is so different than what it was a few months ago.

I think teenagers had a tough time with the virus and lockkdown and you have conveyed those thoughts so well here Riya. Not much fun being confined to your room most of the time and having to adapt to online study while not seeing friends. Hoping that it won't be too long before this all blows over and we can get back to the normal we know.
