Common Fears

Common Fears

A Story by InfiniteInk

Common fears,
Like being a blade of grass in a yard,
Or an ant in a mound of dirt
Only to be cut by the slash of the same mower,
Not like the stick who halts your progress by getting stuck
Or rather the rose that you refuse to hack cause it steal your attention for many moments.
Making the blandness of your routine beautiful,
Dragging days and escaping passions,
turn my once complex mind into a simple want for entertainment,
Like shrinking the galaxy to fit into a marble.
I marvel at the feats of other men,
professing my hopelessness, confessing my envy.
Unconscious of determination, every bit conscious of self pity.
Committing to foolish wishing on burning rocks as if genie live on them.
Praying on the mystique of the future for the answers of the present,
They all speak tales of lazy graves deep enough to bury elephants.
The admiration of the famous has spoiled to jealousy,
where I once repeated their quotes I now gossip their rumors.
Were their arms longer than mine that they reached the heights they sought to climb.
Days I feel as if their DNA evolved to have a third strain were they grew wings.
Grounded by failure and idle in wandering.
Guided by only my pride so I'll never rise.
How I treasure my nights though,
When my sight captures the glow of the moon in my pupils,
Or the stars speak stories of mythical legends in their patterns.
Such an infinity to my finite world.
But even then a star is just a blade of grass in a yard.
