The Universe and Me

The Universe and Me

A Poem by Corinna Bridgebury

One marvelous accident after another

And here I stand.

A speck on the face of a minute planet

Orbiting an average sun

On the outer fringe of an infinite field of stars.

I am so insignificant

As to be nonexistent.

What does the universe care about me?

Except that if I were not here to see and comprehend it

It might be something completely different

Or not there at all.

I often used to sit and stare at the stars when I was feeling sorry for myself or dwelling on the bad in my life because it helped to see that I was so small and insignificant. Proof in your words then, that no two people find comfort in the same things... Things can always be looked at from a different angle.
A compelling write.
