Gems of the Ghetto

A slice of ghetto life and a portrait of some who live it.

Her name is Madonna

She has dominion

But it goes wrong

Always demanding respect

And sometimes enforcing.

Her name is Imani

She has strength

But it flows nowhere

Always imagining

And sometimes scheming

His name is Darnell

He's worldly

But the world hurt him; bad

Always living

And sometimes learning.

His name is Ed

He's solid

But the drink broke him

Always surviving

And sometimes thriving

These are

the gems of the Ghetto.

Interesting sketches of a variety of individuals here. I wonder if they are aware of the assessments, and if so, whether they agree with them. Liked especially the "sometimes" qualifiers at the end of each sketch. None of us is successful 100% of the time.
